A recent transplant from New York City to Washington, DC, Rob King is a graphic designer whose concept-driven work strives for unexpected solutions that engage the viewer in a participatory experience.

Rob’s clients, a mix of corporate and non-profit organizations, have included Greenpeace, The Discovery Channel and the National Building Museum. Combining the visual power of reductivism with the emotional resonance of wit, Rob’s design work has been reported on in Time Magazine, PR Week, and on MTV News.

His work reflects a commitment to the clarity of modernism, informed by a profound interest in design history. Evocative typography is a key component of his design.

Rob holds a Master’s degree in Communication Design from New York’s Pratt Institute and has completed additional coursework at the School of Visual Arts. His instructors included Bob Gill and James Victore.

In addition to independent consulting work, Rob is an adjunct faculty member at the Art Institute of Washington, where he teaches courses in typographic design. Prior to this, he was a Senior Designer at the Washington branding & design firm Axis Communications, and an Art Director at the interactive firm Calfo Ives Media Design in New York.

Rob is a recovering Floridian who also struggles daily with addictions to mid-century modern design and Ethiopian food. Feel free to contact him to discuss the latest episode of Mad Men, or to have him explain why The Replacements were the greatest rock band of all time.
